Mayor’s Memo : December 2011

Mayor DeGraffenried

Happy Holidays,

As we approach the holidays and a new year, I find myself very thankful for the blessing of living in our great community. It is true that this election season has been very divisive. In fact, at the writing of this letter, the results of the recount of our petitions for a new water reclamation facility still remain unknown. However, I am optimistic for the future of our community regardless of its final outcome. My optimism comes from a sincere thankfulness that stems from the good people of our city who took the time to educate themselves on the issues we face and to participate in the voting process. Still, there remain strong feelings on both sides of the sewer issues.

Ronald Reagan once said “Peace is not the absence of conflict; it is the ability to handle conflict by peaceful means.”

I personally believe that there is more that unites us as citizens of Santaquin than there is that divides us. Working together is the only way our community will overcome this divide. The problems we face are collectively ours and must be faced with solutions that incorporate the best interests of all parties involved. Let us work together to find solutions, to instill peace, and chart a more positive direction in the days, weeks, and months ahead. Please join me in this season of peace by extending a warm hand and a forgiving heart.

I wish to welcome our newly elected leaders who will face these challenges in the months ahead. I offer my support to them and call upon all of our citizens to do the same. I would also like to thank our three council members who are leaving our ranks and extend my personal appreciation for the service they have rendered.

In closing, I wish you and your families a Happy Thanksgiving, a Merry Christmas, and a Happy Holiday Season.

Please be mindful of those in our community who are alone or are suffering by extending the joy of the season to all those in need.

Again, I want you to know that I am available to discuss your questions and concerns on the second Tuesday of every month. Visits are made “by appointment only” from 6:00-7:30 PM in our new building located at 275 West Main Street. Appointments can be scheduled through Susan Farnsworth, City Recorder, who can be reached at (801) 754-3211×204. If unable to visit with me during the set times, please call the City Recorder & I will try to accommodate your time schedule.
