The Old Santaquin Stake Center

The Old Stake Center | Santaquin, UT

A letter from President Bart Olson, Stake President of the Santaquin Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Editor’s Note: This is a portion of a letter that was sent out to local LDS church leaders in Santaquin, the words are a fitting tribute to the Old Stake Center that was burned by an arson fire on Thursday, Dec 15
Brethren, this is a sad day in Santaquin; the Old Stake Center is beloved by all in town. Many of us grew up in that building and have many fond memories. Those that are new to Santaquin – once they go to the building for a time – they too love the building and don’t want to go to any other building. For me personally from as early as I can remember my Father was the custodian of the building. I have very fond memories of time spent twice a week cleaning the building (although at the time they were not fond memories). I have been in every place in the building, and this is personal to me.
Bishops, although this is personal to many of us and I know we all hope that the person/persons are caught my heart goes out to these individuals. I know at this point we don’t know if this was someone that is in their teens living at home with their parents, or if it is something else, I can’t help but feel for them and what things must be going on in their lives to have done this. I hope that we can all find it within our hearts to forgive, and to pray that they can find the help they need to not have so much hatred, and to someday be able to find some peace in their lives. Bishops please encourage members of your wards to also forgive.
The Old Stake Center will be rebuilt and within the next year lives will be back to normal. Lets see if through all of this we can become closer together as a stake and become a better people.
There have been many that throughout the day today have stopped by the building and ask if they could help, please let members know that we are very grateful for their willingness, but unless they are ask to help with something specific the church will take care of things and the best thing they can do is stay clear and let the work move forward.
May the Lord bless us to know what we need to learn from this.
Sincerely,
President B Olson

just got back home . So sorry to hear about the loss of this building. It was our first meeting place when we came to Santaquin 6 years ago.
