Rockin’Eats Food Review – Santaquin Cheeseburgers

Rockin'Eats Santaquin Food Review | Cheeseburgers

by Rock Haun – Video Editor/Food Lover

Rock Haun of inSantaquin loves him some food. He’s not a man of exquisite tastes, but he knows a good meal when he eats one. He’s taken it into his own hands (and stomach) to find out where a guy or gal can find the best small-town cuisine in Santaquin. He pits similar eats from various well-known locations in town against each other to determine the Rockin’Eats of Santaquin.

Now, Santaquin has several great stops if you’re looking to grab a nice juicy burger. From old-time favorites like the Santaqueen, to newer contenders like DQ and Fast Trax, there is no shortage of beefy goodness in Santaquin. For this review, I’ve tried to keep the playing field simple by ordering the same item from five different restaurants that offer the cheeseburger. Each time I ordered, I asked for the cheeseburger (with fries and a Dr. Pepper at regular size as a control in the experiment). The price could vary between the orders, I just wanted to know which “cheeseburger” each place offered.

One man band

The Old Favorite – served with tomatoes, pickles, onions, and lettuce on the side.  Ordered no onion.
$5.79 – served with french fries
$1.79 –  w/ Dr. Pepper

First impression – Looks pretty good for what I paid, toppings in small moderation, bun was toasted, extra points for presentation. The patty’s a bit small compared to the bun.

Taste – Excellent, juicy, cooked to a well done. Very good seasoning to add to taste. Tomato was a soggy one so it had a weird texture.  The fries were a little stale but not bad, needs more salt.

Evaluation – Very good cheeseburger, well worth the $6 paid. Need to add your own toppings such as ketchup and mustard. Burger could be bigger for $6, but you have the option to make it a double for $2.49 more

DQ

Classic cheese burger – served with pickles, ketchup, and mustard
$4.19 – w/ fries and drink

First impression – Looks good, LOTS of fries. The burger itself is on the small side and is very plain, not many toppings or extra seasoning.

Taste – It was OK, very plain, overpowered by mustard. Couldn’t really taste the patty, the side of fries was excellent though.

Evaluation – For 4 bucks, you get what you pay for.

Conoco

Cheeseburger – served with pickles, onions (taken off), tomato, diced lettuce, sauces
$5.11 – Special w/ fries and drink

First impression – BIG, lots of toppings, smells great, patty is big in proportion to bun (which is nice).

Taste – Very good, fresh grilled, juicy, good flavor, fries are crispy and delicious!

Evaluation – I enjoyed it a lot. It filled me up (which is no small feat). Sauces unknown but very good tasting with a nice thick patty

Santaqueen

Cheeseburger – served with chopped lettuce, what appears to be pink sauce, pickles
$3.97 – w/ fries and drink

First impression – Very small, seems smashed (hope they didn’t smash it?), not many toppings, cheap at 4 bucks with a very small drink and not many fries.

Taste – Not bad, the sauce ads a good flavor. Cooked right, can’t really taste the meat because it’s very small and thin. The main taste comes from the lettuce and sauce. Fries are not bad at all, cooked right, seasoned for taste, not many fries but they are thick.

Evaluation – Good, still hungry though. Barley enough drink to wash it down, but they do ask if you would like a bigger drink so my fault. Good cheap burger, good for those on budget like high schoolers or those who want a quick snack.

Sinclar (Fast Trax)

Cheeseburger – served with lettuce, ketchup, mustard, mayo, pickles
$5.14 – w/ fries and drink

First impression – Big patty, good size for the price. Greasy, supposed to come with fires but they did not want to cook them so they gave me wedges instead.

Taste – Not bad, but at the same time not much flavor. No seasoning on burger and lots of sauce, so mustard was overpowering. Wedges were slightly stale, they were kept in a hot box so they were probably cooked earlier in the day – still pretty good.

Evaluation – Not my favorite, but good price for the size of the burger. Was supposed to have tomato but didn’t.  Lots of grease juicing out of the patty.

Verdict: Some great cheeseburgers in Santaquin, but the Rockin’Eats award goes to Conoco’s cheeseburger and fries!
