
Accused man shoots dog inside of car while driving between Santaquin and Nephi
While driving on Interstate 15 between Santaquin and Nephi an intoxicated man allegedly discharged a firearm in an attempt to shoot a dog sitting at the feet of a front passenger in his vehicle.
The passenger, according to The Utah Highway Patrol, was shot in the leg.
The incident was reported by The Daily Herald yesterday and the shooter, Alan Askwith was taken into custody on charges “related to having and firing a gun and trying to escape police, as well as misdemeanors for cruelty to animals, driving on a suspended license and driving while intoxicated.”
According to The Daily Herald, Askwith ordered the passenger to throw the dead dog and two firearms out of the window following the shooting. He then drove to Central Valley Hospital in Nephi with the wounded passenger, where a Utah Highway Patrol trooper was investigating an unrelated accident. The report indicated that Askwith attempted to flee police after he was hancuffed.
Askwith is being held on $10,000 bail.
